VERIFYING A SKRILL ACCOUNT

What is verification?

Verification gives us confidence that you are who you say you are and that you are located where you say you are located. It is important that we are able to positively identify our customers in order to comply with regulatory requirements.

It also allows us to provide our customers with the best possible service, for example by increasing or even removing the limits applied to accounts. Customers are able to send and receive up to €2,500 before we are required to verify their identity. Verification may occur before this point for security reasons. You will not have to verify more than once, however additional documents may be requested if any details have been changed.

Do I need to verify my identity?

You can use your Skrill account without verifying your details to send and receive up to €2,500. When you reach this level, in accordance with our responsibilities as an FCA regulated financial institution and for security reasons, we are required to verify your identity.
At the time of you reaching this limit, you will be temporarily unable to make transactions to or from your Skrill wallet.
An easy way to ensure you have continuous access to all your Skrill wallet benefits is to actively complete your identity verification.
Once you have started using your account to make transactions, you will be given the option to provide a verification of your identity, by uploading a clear, readable, valid and unaltered scanned colour copy or photo of one of the following documents:
  • The front and back of your driving licence.
  • The photo page of your passport.
  • Front and back of your national ID card.
You can find further details on how to complete this here.

How do I verify my credit or debit card with Skrill?

Verifying a debit or credit card with Skrill is a simple, 5 step process:
1) Login to your account and click Cards and Bank Accounts
2) Click the Verify link next to the card you want to verify
3) We will then debit a small, random amount from your card
4) Check your bank or card statement for this amount
5) When you know how much was debited, log into your Skrill account and confirm this amount
Depending on how quickly your bank or card issuer displays transactions on your account and how you access your statements, this type of verification can take anything from a few seconds to a few days.
Verifying your card will increase the amount you can upload with it, in accordance with the deposit limits, outlined in this article: What are my deposit limits?
We will be adding a card verification to the Skrill mobile app in the near future.

Why do you need to verify my data?

Verification increases trust between us. It makes us confident that you are who you say you are and that you’re located where you say you are located. Verification allows us to do more for you, such as increasing or even removing the limits applied to your account.
To verify your identity, we would usually require both of the following:
  1. A colour copy of a valid official identification document such as your passport, national identity card (front and back) or driving license.
  2. Proof of registered address such as a utility bill or bank statement issued within the last three months. The bill or statement should contain your name and the address registered in your Skrill account.
